The Supernatural cast, sorted
Supernatural started as a monster-of-the-week road show about two brothers and became one of television's longest arguments about family. Fifteen seasons later, the monsters are almost beside the point. What keeps fans arguing is who owes what to whom: whether love justifies any deal, whether a chosen family counts as much as a born one, and how many times a person can be forgiven before the question stops being fair.
The central fault line is Dean against Sam, and it is not as simple as the older brother who acts and the younger who thinks. Dean will do anything to keep his family together and does not believe he deserves to be kept. Sam wants a life outside the work and keeps being pulled back into it. Each makes the other's worst decisions possible. The quiz does not ask which brother you prefer. It asks which of them you are when it is your family on the line.
Around them, the show builds a cast of people who choose to belong. Bobby is the father figure who never says it. Jody is the sheriff who keeps adopting strays and, in the process, builds a household. Charlie is the person who found a place in a world she was never meant to see, and who treated the Winchesters as the family she had picked. Castiel is the outsider who stops following orders and starts following people.
The villains are just as human. Crowley is a negotiator whose cynicism never quite covers his need for company. Rowena is a witch who treats power as a love language, and a mother who learned that being feared is safer than being left. Both are the show's best case that redemption is not a straight line, and that a deal can be a form of intimacy. They also share a habit of announcing that they do not care at exactly the moment when it is clearest that they do, which is a trait the quiz recognizes in more people than will admit it.
Fans disagree about which of these people the show treated best, and which of its choices were mistakes. Few disagree about which of them they would want next to them in a motel at 3 a.m. with something outside the door, and that is a better test than a favorite-character poll. Answer the questions as you would act in that situation, not as you would like to be seen, and the quiz will do the rest.
